Lunch at Leaside Longo's
Hard to beat this idea for a casual, very affordable and delicious lunch. Brian Hickey treated Donna and me to fresh-made grilled sandwiches from the Kitchen inside the 3 month old Longo’s Store on Laird Avenue. Brian and I had peameal bacon sandwiches smothered in mushrooms, mozzarella cheese, peppers (Brian) and onions (me). Donna was just as happy with her grilled panini with vegetables and goat cheese. Wonderful! And the grill cooks were cheerful and friendly.

Allow me to clarify…

Data rescue discoveries
While salvaging data from a Western Digital “My Passport” hard drive that had gone into click-of-death mode, I discovered this big icon for the Mac TextEdit app. I recognize the copy from one of Apple’s Think Different ad campaigns, but who’s Kate?
[Update: Turns out KATE is KDE Advanced Text Editor.]
Oh, yes, you might want to know how I got the files off the defunct portable hard drive…

It's Boston Pizza, NOT Boston Burger
Maybe the pizza is OK, never tried it, but forget the burger. It’s about as bland as cardboard and doesn’t even come with relish to help add some flavour. The coffee is so-so, too.
There’s a fairly new Boston Pizza at Leslie and Lakeshore and we went there for lunch today. We do like their salads and onion soup, so we thought we’d support their local presence. There are many more worthy choices in the area, so we’ll leave Boston Pizza to those who treasure easy parking.
The Crews Collection

My friend Brian has amassed a formidable collection of action figures by astute bidding on eBay. There is a huge community of avid collectors out there and they really know their stuff. Figures are valued for rarity, condition and uniqueness. Experts know about molds that were used, defects in particular production runs, colour anomalies, dates… all kinds of amazing details.

Earthshaking prediction
For all the hype, hair-pulling and hand-wringing by news media, none of us… not a single one… will plunge off any fiscal cliff.
Affordable back talk

People without Stephen Harper’s access to millions of tax dollars have political messages, too. On today’s walk, I noticed one of them.
