Data rescue discoveries

While salvaging data from a Western Digital “My Passport” hard drive that had gone into click-of-death mode, I discovered this big icon for the Mac TextEdit app. I recognize the copy from one of Apple’s Think Different ad campaigns, but who’s Kate?
[Update: Turns out KATE is KDE Advanced Text Editor.]
Oh, yes, you might want to know how I got the files off the defunct portable hard drive…
I had been using the Firewire connector when the click-of-death commenced. The drive would not longer mount and I had no way to save my stuff. I switched to using the USB connector and plugged the drive directly into my iMac. It mounted and all my stuff was there. I am in the process of copying everything to safer storage. Then I’ll retire the WD drive. It’s acting to flaky to trust.

  1. For a textual tribute to rebellious originals, the “Take Care” closing seems a little trite, doesn’t it? And why does “Care” have a capital C? I guess nobody cared. Who’d expect anyone to read the tiny, tiny type on the TextEdit icon?
Have I hit a new low for nitpicking? I think so!
