Tim Hortons has wi-fi and that’s a good thing. I measured the basic speed at 0.67 Mbps.
A few doors away, the public library’s wi-fi speed was a lot faster… 4.21 Mbps.
I know I won’t get a Nobel Prize for this, but I’ll keep working on it.

If I’m not mistaken, the more users (and what they are doing) on a wi-fi network, the slower it gets. If this is indeed correct, and as I would suspect, Timmy’s is more popular than the public library…….too bad.
Perhaps to increase traffic, the public library should have a coffee shop inside…..then instead of lending books at no charge, they could sell books. I think I just invented Chapters!
Right on, Paul! One day, perhaps in the not too distant future, we may very well see coffee stands in the public library. Or at least those little one cup maker machines. I’d be a customer!
You are probably right, Paul, when you say that the number of users sharing a wifi hotspot would have a bearing on the speed. I still think the library has more bandwidth, though, because there were a lot of people there using laptops. The Tim Horton’s was pretty small and I doubt if it had as many customers using wifi at the time.
