Scotland makes its choice

Before I was Bill Andersen I was Bill Ross with Scots on my father’s side and Icelanders on my mother’s. I think there were some English in there, too, so I’m kind of pleased that the U.K. is going to hang together.

I’m glad that the Scots raised the question of independence though, because it has resulted in more autonomy. From the little I know of the issues, I think the Scots are on a better socio-political trajectory than the Brits.
Regarding the tartans … I’m not big on this sort of thing but find it mildly interesting. I prefer the green hunting tartan on the right to the redder one on the left.
The motto, which is for some reason in the language of ancient Romans, says “Success Nourishes Hope”. What? If you hope to succeed and you do, hasn’t hope been fulfilled rather than nourished? Anyway, it has a nice, pompous ring to it.

  1. I’m sure that Scotland could have done well as an independent country and still worked effectively with England. England is the winner, here. I believe it needs the influence of Scotland more than Scotland needs England.
