WordPress now makes it very easy to create playlists like this, so I must try it.
I got this quirky selection from Jamendo and the Free Music Archive. If none of my picks please you, do go find some that do. You can download your finds and keep them to play, even offline.
Back to see Ulli's home in 1971
I was invited along for the expedition. Crawf (Ulli’s husband and my school friend), Brendan (Ulli’s son) and Hayden (Brendan’s daughter) were along, too. Hayden’s mom, Julianna got called into work. 🙁

Danica reports in from Lake Clear
Sorta speaks for itself, doesn’t it?
It’s not all lounging on the dock, though. There’s also bird watching.
It’s the annual girls’ time at Sue’s cottage. Vino, videos and vegetating.
Easy, profitable online trading
Ian sends me stuff like this…

And in return, I send him stuff like this …
Serious business.

You know a name will stick when …
Beach Hill was my entry in a neighbourhood naming vote a couple of years ago. Since then, we have acquired a Beach Hill Restaurant, a Beach Hill Pub and a Beach Hill dog-walking service. We are even recognized on Google Maps.
But you know the name has really caught on when it goes Craigslist.
[Correction] Fame was fleeting. The Craigslister left the Beach Hill location on the ad for about an hour, then impatiently changed it to Woodbine and Gerrard. 🙁
Harper and MacKay to repeal Law of Gravity
Bouyed by their success at ending the age old scourge of prostitution, Stephen Harper and his Minister of Justice are tackling the laws of physics. Bill C-007 will lift the economy and everything else by ending gravity for once and for all.

Critics acknowledge the Harper government’s experience with prostitution, but say the anti-gravity bill may be overturned by the courts.
Photos worth waiting for
One of the major events in our busy schedule last week was a One Year Birthday Ceremony, Korean-style. I messed up on the starting time, so we missed the beginning. That makes me especially grateful for the photos taken by Martin Sieg. Nice job, Martin, and thank you!
[metaslider id=”7897″]
Grandparents: longtime friends Ulli and Crawf Walker. Parents: Julianna and Brendan Walker. Star: Hayden Walker
The ceremony dates back to times when many infants didn’t make it to their first birthday, so when one did, it was something to celebrate! The child would have a life … but what kind of life? The answer was on the altar and the child would choose.
Tokens representing various career paths and life experiences were arrayed on the table. The birthday girl was urged to pick one up, indicating her future. Would she be rich? Join the military or government? Would she never go hungry or take up the arts?
Hayden knew what she wanted and chose well. Long life! A skein of yarn (or string) symbolizes longevity for Hayden.
Because Hayden is a Canada Day baby, it wasn’t easy to find a party room that would open on the holiday. Artisans At Work came through, so remember them if you need a small but very serviceable meeting space. Hat’s off to Brendan for his ability as a highly skilled chef (his profession). He had to cater the event himself because of holiday closures. I guess Hayden picked the right Dad, too.
Mars: Closer than I thought
Not only does this gorgeous photo by Jerry Lodriguss illustrate the fact that the red planet was closest to us yesterday … click image to go to site … it reminds me of one of those six degrees of separation things.

The blurb on John Robert Colombo’s first Kindle publication notes that John “served as a member of the team (led by Carl Sagan) which produced the “Visions of Mars” plaque that is attached to the Phoenix Mars Lander which set down on the surface of Red Planet on 25 May 2008.”

The story of the plaque, how it was lost and replaced with a DVD can be found here.
Colombo jumps into e-publishing
A collection of paranormal tales, sent by Canadians to author John Robert Colombo, is now an Amazon Kindle book.

I got to do the cover, creating a globe-covering Canada with Google Earth and ghostifying everything with a a ghastly green glow and some Photoshop effects. Fun!
With the author’s permission, here’s a sample story chosen for its brevity as well as its mystery …
