Judging from the way the cut/repair goes over the roadway, looks like someone had to replace a private drain connection to the city sewer. Seems to happen more often after a new surface has been laid down.
It’s a shame, whatever the reason but the saddest part is the wait for crews to come back and repair the “temporary” patch. I believe that up to two years is deemed to be acceptable.
