It has served its purpose. Four blue eggs hatched and flew a while ago. Mother robin still eats in our front yard, but she’s done with nesting for a while.
When I took the nest down from its perch atop a porch pillar, I noticed that the outside, structural windings were made of long, long strands of coarse grass. Short fine blades were used as lining. Creature comforts, no doubt.
Month: June 2012
Today's sighting: tree with love handles
Maybe it ate too much chocolate. (see entry below)
One kilogram chocolate bar

News of our household chocolate embargo hasn’t reached the UK. This huge bar reached me today, along with tins of cookies, shortbreads and a Thank You lollipop. Some video editing I did for the Magill wedding prompted the extravaganza. So thank you, Magills and thank you Kathleen for getting it here unbroken.
I tend to eat every scrap of chocolate that comes my way, instantly. In emergency situations like this, I ask Danica to put it out of sight and issue pieces at a civilized rate.

Riverdale Art Walk has GROWN since we last visited! The annual show created a city of tents in Jimmy Simpson park, absolutely stuffed with paintings, photographs and sculptures. Something for every taste, although I overheard an artist saying he hoped for more sales at some other venue. “Toronto sucks”, he opined. Evidently we buy more street eats than artworks.
Today we discovered pide

We had heard of a delicious Turkish food called pide [pronounced pea-deh] and Danica remembered that one of the best sources was nearby. Pizza Pide is at the corner of Gerrard East and Pape Avenue, near Gerrard Square. It was lunchtime and the restaurant was doing a brisk business, churning out more than 20 different kinds of a sort of Turkish pizza. Wonderful!
