Server side encryption can still be set up correctly, so access is only given to the correct client.

I think you’re right, Joni… IF servers are set up correctly… but a lot are not. Credit card numbers are a particularly juicy target and every retail outlet transmits usernames and PINs. That’s a lot of weak spots.
I wish we could get accurate data on how many times passwords are compromised, but nobody wants to admit it when their systems fail.
