The underside of Rosedale Heights School for the Arts

Rosedale Heights School for the Arts overlooks Bayview and the Don Valley. It sits at the south west end of the viaduct, across from Castle Frank subway station.

I wonder if the visual arts are being pursued with as much energy and enthusiasm in the classroom as they are in the concrete caverns supporting the school parking lot.

Sure the styles are derivative… but aren’t they terrific? Colourful, lively, assertive. The setting is perfect, too… cave paintings, under the car park that juts out from Castle Frank hill. Careful on the stairs. A lot of the wood is rotten and slippery when wet.

London’s graffiti skate park has them skunked. I thought you blogged one of my shots from last year…can’t find it through your search. Regardless, looks like you had another interesting walk!

As a student who goes to Rosedale, hell yeah we put a lot of work into our classroom art!
You really should have taken a look at the memorial some students did nearer to the building on the side of the bridge. A student died the year he was supposed to be graduating, so his friends created this mural, and it’s amazing, it’s him as an angel and it’s probably one of the most beautiful pieces of graffiti I’ve ever seen. Apparently Rob Ford has tried to take it down a couple of times.

Thanks, Carly. You’re right … I didn’t see the piece you mention. I’ll make a point of going to see it. If Rob Ford doesn’t like it, I probably will. 🙂
