Monkey business at the Defence Department

It was no computer genius who tried to doctor the Wikipedia entry about Canada’s plan to spend $9 billion on F-45 fighter jets. The changes were so childish, you could almost hear the writer giggling. For example:

Original:
Michael Byers, Canada Research Chair in Global Politics and International Law at the University of British Columbia characterized the purchase of the F-35 as a “pig in a poke” and stated that it is too expensive, short-ranged and unneeded.

Doctored:
Michael Byers, Canada Research Chair in Global Politics and International Law at the University of British Columbia characterized the purchase of the F-35 as a “superb investment in Canada’s defence” and stated that it is awesome, and anticipated.

Opposition leader Michael Ignatieff was also said to be [sic] “referred affectionately as Iggy or Icky“.

It would be scary if the DND was waging a covert campaign to interfere with government decisions or to undermine political opponents, but this is the work of some immature fool who doesn’t even know how Wikipedia works.

The monkey’s mischief was easily cleaned up and the monkey himself will be easily found. The scary thing is that such nitwits are using DND computers.
