A couple of interesting maps

Countries that do not use the metric system
Where Google Street View is available
Peter Sever forwarded a message with a whole raft of similar maps, many U.S.A.-centric. The ones above were the first two. If you’d like to see them all, drop me a note and I’ll forward Peter’s message to you.

  1. The three countries depicted on the metric map are the United States, Liberia and Myanmar (or Burma, if you prefer). Since Liberia was founded by freed slaves from the U.S., its not surprising that it follows U.S. measurement conventions. According to Wikipedia, Myanmar (colonized by the Brits until 1948) is thinking about switching to metric. If it does, that will leave only two hold-outs.

  2. Upon seeing the second map I rushed to see a view of my street, of course there is no image available. Nor is there one for Nelson BC. If we pan in close enough to the map possibly there are blank spots in the blue, eh?

  3. I didn’t receive a higher resolution version of the map, Joni. Too bad we can’t zoom in to see if small holes in the Street View coverage are not showing up. My guess is that the map just has errors.
