Beer can chicken is g-o-o-o-o-d!

rubbed-beer-can-chickenFollowing the rule “Don’t play with your food”, I have resisted putting talk balloons above these seated beauties. I should get points for that.
You are looking at two “beer-can” chickens, covered in rub, waiting for the barbecue lid to close. Tonight’s delicious dinner emerged after an hour or so… crispy on the outside, juicy inside. Of course we didn’t eat one each. We have 6 more dinners to enjoy after today’s two meals.
Want to see how they looked an hour later?

  1. Danica didn’t have any beer in the house, but she had saved an empty tall can that she filled with coca-cola. Worked just as well as beer. Water would probably do, and some people recommend chicken stock or apple juice as worthy alternatives. One of the two chickens was done with a can of ginger ale. It came out great, too, although the shorter pop can wasn’t quite as good for supporting the chicken in its stand.

  2. I have only done this once but did not turn out as delicious looking as yours!

  3. You are too modest, Mindy. I’ll bet yours was terrific. Thanks for visiting and leaving a comment!

  4. Turned out very tender & moist. The one on the right looks burnt, only because it was touching the lid which must have deflected more heat. I placed a pan of wood chips on the burners to add a grilled flavour – the so-called ‘flavourizing’ bars are lacking.
